The Rhys Evans Group (Group) offers managerial services to promote the efficient operation of the Huntersvlei entities Huntersvlei Farming, Huntersvlei Sussex, and Huntersvlei Meat.

While each constitutes a separate business, they are founded on the exact, same fundamental values at the core of the whole Group. And in turn, each entity draws from the Group’s institutional knowledge and experience.

Each entity is empowered and capacitated with executive decision-making support; financial management capabilities; strategic input; human resource assistance; and marketing resources.

Huntersvlei Farm

Huntersvlei Farm, in the heart of South Africa’s maize-producing region, is where the Evans family story began more than a century ago. The family established a successful farming operation in the northern Free State, which later diversified into other agri-business interests focused on processing farm produce. It is still a family-owned and run business.

We practice regenerative farming techniques, and our cattle are raised in pastures.
Our grazing methods increase the soil’s biodiversity, which builds carbon-sequestering soils.

The Rhys Evans Group has, for over 75 years, consistently bred top-quality Sussex cattle, which have strong muscling and conformation; adaptability to varying climates; high virility; and cows, with strong maternal instincts, that provide sufficient milk for their calves. We pride ourselves on producing reliable genetics, including our world-class polled genes.

Since its establishment, Huntersvlei Farm has adapted its farming methods to focus on conservation, precision, and no-till agricultural techniques as well as cover crop rotation, leading to improved water infiltration, soil health and microbiology on our arable land.

The farming operation also strives to reduce its reliance on chemical fertilisers through composting farm by-products.

 – HUNTERSVLEI FARMING –

Since its establishment, Huntersvlei Farm has adapted its farming methods to focus on conservation, precision, and no-till agricultural techniques and cover crop rotation. These methods have led to improved water infiltration, soil health, and microbiology on our arable land.

 – HUNTERSVLEI MEAT –

Huntersvlei Meat consists of our Viljoenskroon-based abattoir, which is predominantly a pork operation. But we do process offal from lamb and beef and of course pork. Not only do we deliver nationally, but we pride ourselves on our reputation for supplying quality carcasses with excellent shelf life. Our abattoir operation is fully accredited.
